My Interview with the Awesome Virginia Terry
By: Bernice Angoh

I don’t take this lightly when I say Virginia Terry is an amazing woman. She is the author of FACETS, PHASES & TRANSFORMATION. You can tell someone is amazing not only by their warmth, their heart, the things they say, the way they say the things they say or what they do but also by where they are in their life at the present moment. I am glad and proud to call her my friend. She has had a full and rich life. Full and rich in experiences, wisdom and most importantly full and rich in Facets, Phases & Transformation—which so rightly is the title of her beautiful recently released work.
I had spoken to Virginia quite a few times before and each time, I couldn’t wait to get back and have a more lengthy conversation with her. Our interview was just that, a very candid and beautiful conversation and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Bernice: “Hello Virginia.”

Virginia: “Hi Bernice, glad to talk to you again, how was your Christmas?”

B: “It was great, thank you and you?”

V: “Mine was wonderful. I got to see my mom.”

B: “Tell me a little about yourself.”

Laughing she said “Oh, I wasn’t ready for that, let’s see, where do I start?” she chuckled again.

V: “I work. I lived in New York all my life and 7 years ago I moved to Florida. My best friend moved there and I visited her once and that was it for me, I decided to move there too. All my children are grown. I am a grandmother and a great grand mother. I work for Work Force One; we offer the unemployed resources to help them go back to work. I am a Christian. My desire was to be a missionary at one time but my grandchildren came to live with me and so that ended it for me.”

B: “When did you start writing?”

V: “I started writing in the 80’s. I had always loved writing. I wrote documents and letters for people. I also wrote a Christian newsletter. Then I stopped writing for about 2 years but when I got down to Florida, a friend of mine wanted to see what I wrote and I showed it to him. He loved it and asked me to publish my work. As you know God works in mysterious ways. I met someone once who had two books published and I edited his work for him. Turns out he was an author with the same publishing house I’m now with. He made a great recommendation and I love Publish America Very much. Recently I’ve been thinking about taking a writing course. I know I have a gift but I want to sharpen it”

B: “Well Virginia, you definitely have a gift and taking a course may be a great idea. I would like to share some advice though. Someone once told me most writing courses may change or make your writing style rigid. He said it would be better to take a course in English to perfect your use of punctuation, grammar, etc or better yet take a course in Journalism.”... Read On>
